RaleighGreetings From Raleigh Postcard

Raleigh offers a variety of neighborhoods, housing styles and price ranges. In general, the city limits cover the area inside I-440 (The Beltline), the area north of I-440 to I-540 (The Outer Beltline), and bounded to the north west of I-40 and north east of I-64.  Some areas north of I-540 and south of I-440 also fall within the city limits.

If you are not familiar with Raleigh, you may hear the terms "Inside the Beltline" (much of the area inside I-440, but not all), "North Raleigh" (everything north of I-440), and South East Raleigh (from Downtown Raleigh to the south east boundary of the city limits.

In general, the area "Inside the Beltline" was built out in the 1940s-1970s – housing types and styles will follow the trends during this period - although there are neighborhoods built out earlier (Five Points, Historic Oakwood, Glenwood Brooklyn, & Cameron Park). Much of the newer construction Inside the Beltline has been single home infill replacing an old home on existing lot, but there are some neighborhoods such as the Oaks at Fallon Park and Village at Pilot Mill that were developed on a larger scale with more deliberate subdivision planning.

The area north of I-440 and south of I-540 was built out in the 1960s-1990s. Along I-70 to the west, you will still find new and newer construction as well as on the east side of town. Much of the new construction in Raleigh is found the areas north of I-540 that do fall within the city limits (Bedford, Falls River & Wakefield Plantation.)
